This is a song I wrote about going to Nashville looking for glory.

LOOKING FOR GLORY - © Jane Eamon April 2008

CACGCE – Guitar tuning

Well I took a little driving trip
Across this great big country
Had a thought that I would travel east
To find a little glory
Took my guitar and some pretty songs
Hoping for adventure
Had had a belly full of working life
Wanted free of my indenture

With every mile I travelled south
I was sure it’d be the last time
I would have to venture this far out
To hit that music goldmine
I’d be more than just a local kid
Singing for a story
I’d make my mark, claim my prize
Revel in that glory

When I got to Nashville I was sure
I’d be the next discovery
I’d be lauded by the people there
I wouldn’t have to worry
But to my surprise the town was just
A bigger sea of dreamers
Only difference being I suppose
There were sharks among the swimmers

Every waitress, Joe and wannabe
Was looking for the same thing
They were sure it’d only take one song
To make it to the big leagues
I knew that I was just like them
Just another hopeful writer
But the constant grind of toe to toe
Felt too much like fighting

So I loaded up and headed west
Back to the place I came from
With my tail between my legs I guess
That lure of stardom quite gone
I suppose you might say I was sad
And just a little sorry
But there’s truth in what I’m saying here
There’s a price to pay for glory
