“Songwriting is no less of a creative art form than poetry and prose.”
Jane Eamon is no stranger to the songwriting limelight. Five Okanagan Music awards including Songwriter of the Year, a finalist in the Mountain Stage NewSong Contest, numerous honourable mentions and runner-up awards for many international songwriting contests and the only Canadian as a finalist in the Kerrville NewFolk Songwriting Competition. Folks have paid attention. She has been dubbed the grandmother of songwriting in the Okanagan Valley inspiring many young writers to pursue their careers. She has written a book about her conversations with contemporary Canadian songwriters. She is planning her next project, a series of chapbooks with lyrics, essays and poetry.
Eamon wrote her first song at 17, for a local contest which was then recorded by Rogers Cable. She gave up writing and performing in her early 20’s and did not return until 46. Accepted as a delegate to the inaugural BC Festival of the Arts, she got to study with Stephen Fearing and James Keelaghan. It was there she learned to hone her craft, writing good songs of personal experience.
In 2000, she recorded her first studio album (The Blue Madonna). After meeting her producer, Andrew Smith, she recorded 5 more albums of original music, each building on the previous works. She has also recorded at the legendary Blue Rock Studio in Texas and in BC with David Essig. Each album has been critically acclaimed and earned several award considerations for the writing style she had developed.
A published author (Caught in Time, The Songwriter’s Voice), a writer of several online blogs and articles about songwriting, CD reviews, interviews, local musicians, personal essays and a photographer, Eamon is always searching for the next thing. She has just released her 8th studio album, Second Skin. Eamon calls this album, “the best I’ve ever done.”
The album, released in 2025, is already gathering critical acclaim, fans calling it brave and honest. Eamon also has plans to publish a series of chapbooks tied to the album. They will include essays, poetry, song lyrics and photos showcasing Eamon’s considerable artistic diversity.
One could say Eamon is definitely finding her way
